My Feet and Hands

The other day, Mom and I were sitting on our couch, foot to foot. Mom put her feet up to mine and we discovered that my feet are almost as big as hers. My Mom wears a size seven shoe and I wear a size two shoe. So how is this even possible? I don't know, but it's true! Then, we were at a family Mother's Day BBQ and I put my hands up to Sarah's, and hers were smaller than mine. She is in her twenties and I am eight! How is this even possible? I don't know, but it's true too! Trust me when I say that I am not abnormal in any way. I really think it is Mom and Sarah with the issues! For some fun when you are bored, try putting your hands and feet up to someone else's and see how crazy different the sizes can be!

Please Donate To Loma Linda

Hi, you may or may not have heard about Loma Linda. It is a village in El Salvador with about 276 people. It is a poor village. They do not have medicine, electricity or stable houses. Their beds are made of rocks and clay. Their ovens are made out of clay, which makes for slow cooking. Their escuela, or school, is very far from where they live. They have to pay to go to school, and most people don't have the money. Those who do have to walk for miles and cross a river, which is very hard to do in the rainy season. It is also very dangerous because the current runs very fast. Sometimes children get swept away in the current. Their classrooms have over thirty kids in them. The villagers speak Spanish. They play in the river for fun. They have a rock waterslide. They also play soccer for fun. They have a soccer ball, but it isn't very good. Our school class made candles and crafts and sold them to raise money for them. Now, they have a new ball and jerseys and they got to verse another village. This made them very happy. There are still lots of things they need. They really need a hospital and clothes and better houses. They need a bridge built to cross the river so they can safely get to school. So please make a donation. Any amount helps. You can really make a difference or even save a life. To learn more about this cause, please contact St. Alphonsus School in Winnipeg, MB in the Grade 3 class, or me, Kate! God Bless.

The Main Menu Is Yam Fries

Do you know why yam fries are so great? Me and my Mom just came back from Boston Pizza here in Winnipeg, and we shared a huge plate of yam fries with a chipotle dip. Excellent beyond words. Me and my Mom were thinking that it would be a cool thing for us to go to BP every Friday night for yam fries. We are calling it T.G.I.F.Y.F. Thank goodness it's Friday - yam fries! My Mom had pic a pop in colored cups and pizza night while watching The Dukes Of Hazard when she was little. Now we have yam fries and coke while watching Chuck instead. I would like to dedicate this blog to the founder of the yam fries, my Aunty Tara. Without her, we never would have discovered this delicious appetizer. It is one of the world's best kept secrets. Yeah for Aunty and yeah for us! Try some yam fries today. You won't regret it.

Tony Hawk's Downhill Jam

The Wii game, Tony Hawk's Downhill Jam is the best game ever! If you have a Wii and you have never played this game, you are missing out big time! You get to skateboard in all these cool places, do awesome tricks and go super fast. You can also change your girl or guy and even what they wear. The best part is you can pick tatoos for them too! I wake up early on purpose on school days so I can play before I go to school. It really starts my day off right. I give it five out of five stars - a perfect score for a perfect game.

The Real Reason Of Easter

Lent - me and my Mom decided to give up things we really love this Lent. My Mom gave up eating chocolate and I gave up drinking every kind of pop. Some people don't know why other people give things up during the forty days before Easter. We do this because this is the amount of time Jesus spent in the desert before he sacrificed himself for all of us. So when we give up something for Lent, it is to remind us of the sacrifice of Jesus. Easter is not about chocolate and bunnies and gifts. It is about love and life and sacrifice. Happy Easter everyone!

My Loose Tooth

My tooth has been loose for one solid week! I just can't get it out!!!! It hurts when I wiggle it alot. Aaaaahhhhh!!!!!Wa wa wa wa wa waaaaaaaa!!!!! I know I sound like a baby, but you adults have no memory of the pain. All I know is that the only good thing about losing a tooth is you get money from the tooth fairy, which is actually your Mom. Moms have lots of jobs and that is one of them. I predict that my tooth will be out by tomorrow, and I really hope it is! For anyone that wants to make a donation to my tooth fairy fund, please contact my Mom. Talk to you soon!

Paul Blart: Mall Cop

Well, this is a funny story. I actually went with my Grammy to see Race To Witch Mountain this weekend, but a twist of fate led us to Paul Blart: Mall Cop instead. We paid for our first choice, got our popcorn and were sitting in the theatre waiting for the movie to start. The lights went down and curtains started to go apart, but got stuck at the halfway point. The movie began with the curtains covering half the screen! After five minutes of trying to get the curtains out of the way, a voice came on and said there was a "mechanical" problem and we couldn't see the film today! Now for the good news! We got to go to another movie without paying again AND we got free passes to see another movie at another time. So, off we went to a different theatre to see Paul Blart: Mall Cop. We only had a five minute wait - nice. My Grammy wasn't really into it, but this is my review: I give it five stars, two thumbs up, the year's must-see movie for all ages! It was hilarious! If you like Kevin James, you will love, love, love this movie! It was hysterical!

Being Sick Sucks

Being sick has a lot of bad things, but a few good things too. Missing school for almost a week is perfect, but the bad thing is the hurt in my throat and my heart, and my ears get plugged. The worst thing is how hot I get when I am trying to sleep. And the coughing! It's awful! My doctor says I don't need medicine because it's not an infection, but I don't get that because I can't breathe! I hate bugs called viruses, but I'm not a germ head. Before this, I thought a virus was only in your computer. I can't believe I fell for that. Back to the good things ... no school, lots of t.v. and lots of attention. Let's focus on that and try to forget that being sick sucks. My Mom has the same thing as me except worse. But at least we have each other. To all you sickos out there, feel better!

My Birthday Party With Snakes & Other Pets

My 8th birthday party was off the hook! My Mom planned my party at Petland. Almost my whole class was there. O.k. here' s the plan! First, I will tell you about the snakes, and then the other pets. I held a boa constrictor. It was really cool when the snake wrapped itself around my neck. There were also smaller snakes, a garter and a water snake. They weren't as cool though. There was this ferret and it had no bones, and it was like a slinky but for real. We also held a dog , a poodle, and she went to the bathroom on the floor infront of us! IT WAS GROSS!!!!!! My Mom fell in love with this Pug that was there, and the lady who worked there let her hold it and walk around with it for almost my whole party! Now my Mom wants one for real! But we can't get one because she says it's not fair to it without a nice backyard. So now I want a house. For my 9th birthday party, I want to go and play laser tag, but my Mom says she's not sure yet. I highly recommend a Petland Party. It was awesome!

Friday Night Is Always Off The Hook

First of all we get to eat and drink popcorn , Pepsi , all kinds of chips , Coke , pizza and Rootbeer. We go to bed at 10:00 , 11:00 , 12:00 or not at all!!!! Well I do! We usually watch Chuck re runs. We pick our favorite episodes and watch only those. We always laugh super hard even though we've seen it before! We play Scrabble on this cool rotating board and fill up paper cups full of cheezies to eat while we play. The best thing is that there is no school the next morning. Sometimes I even fall asleep watching t.v. on the livingroom couch, and my Mom doesn't even move me! We call Fridays T.G.I.F. but we say Thank Goodness It's Friday because my Mom doesn't like me to say Thank God. But I just did. Sorry! Fridays are the best day of the week. It was my Mom's favorite day when she was little too because she got to drink Coke out of colored cups and watch Dukes Of Hazard. Sometimes we watch Dukes Of Hazard re-runs too. I like that show because there's this really cool car and they have to enter through the windows because the doors are welded shut. I will buy a car like that when I am 16. Fridays rock!

My Mom's Obsession With The Shopping Channel

Hi all,
At our place, there are only ever three things on our t.v. - Monday nights - Chuck - excellent, all the other weeknights - Chuck Season 1 (on DVD thanks to my cool Aunt and Uncle) and Chuck Season 2 re-runs (on our computer). These help us to get through to the next new episode on Monday's. So far, so good, right? Well, there is one BIG thing that tampers with this excellent system. Channel 7, MTS, 24 hours a day - yes - TSC, otherwise known as The Shopping Channel. My Mom is obsessed with this channel. She wants to watch everything from jewelry to beauty products to kitchen stuff. Last weekend was the channel's "birthday" so we had to watch every day because there was a contest where, if you spotted three beach logos, you could enter to win a cruise. I helped my mom find that last logo and all I know is we better be on a boat and soon. I asked my Mom what she wanted for Valentine's Day and she said a TSC gift card. I didn't get it though because that is way to cheesy. I love my Mom. I love Chuck. I do not love The Shopping Channel. What do you all think?

Why Everyone Should Tune In To Chuck

Chuck is an awesome t.v. show because it has lots of action scenes and spy stuff. Sarah, one of Chuck's handlers, is really pretty, but more importantly, she does a mean front snap kick. No-one can mess with her. The show is very complicated but it has lots of funny parts too. My favorite character is Casey. He is the other one of Chuck's handlers. He is played by Adam Baldwin, who, in my opinion, is the most under-rated of the Baldwin brothers. He is scary and funny and super strong, all of which are very cool. Then there is Ellie and Captain Awesome, who are both - awesome! Every, single character who works in The Buy More always blurts out something surprisingly hilarious. The best part about the show is that, in every episode, there is some kind of fight scene, and for my Mom, some hint of romance between Sarah and Chuck. So we watch it together, for different reasons, but we agree that Chuck is the best show ever! If you are not watching it, you should be! We give it two thumbs up!

Why Guitar Hero Is So Awesome

Guitar Hero is awesome because it is just like real guitar, but better. You can go on easy, medium, hard or expert. I am on hard. I did one song on expert but it is really hard! My favorite part is versing the Devil. If you beat the Devil, you get to go to the next level. I have beaten the Devil on medium, which, for an eight year old, is pretty noteworthy. You can also buy stuff like characters, outfits, songs and guitars, but I am not much into the "shopping" part of the game because I think that is kind of girly. P.S. I am a girl, but come on, let's just play the guitar! Rock on all you hard core Guitar Hero players. Keep it real.

My Lazy Cat

First of all, my cat looks like she weighs 30 pounds. She just sits around all day, staring and eating. This led me to thinking ... what if I could just sit around all day, staring and eating? Pros and cons. First, the pros - it would be kind of nice to get scratched on the belly and eat whenever I wanted. I would also like to lay around and not have to go to school or do any homework. (And I think it is the dream of all children to not have school or homework). Now, the cons - I wouldn't want to get squashed on the road by trucks and have my life ended with the title of "roadkill." But, then again, I could simply just stay indoors. So, to conclude, there really are no cons. Cats have a great life and I wish I were one.

My Crazy Monday At School

Hi all,

First of all, everybody at school is saying "hi" and "ciao" and I am wondering if they are saying "hello" or "goodbye." Did you know that "ciao" means both? So what I want to know is how are you supposed to know if someone is starting a conversation with you or ending one? Anyway, we had a crazy math test today. We had to divide both halves of fake profit money and write five paragraphs about why math is awesome. Can you believe that? Come on! We should vote to see exactly how many third graders think math is awesome. I, for one, like math, but this particular task, not crazy about. My favorite part of the day, as always, was gym, but all of us were sweating profusely because our gym teacher made us play hockey with long sleeved pinneys on! Don't get me wrong. I love gym and I love hockey, but I don't love sweating like a pig. So I hope tomorrow I can figure things out. As a side note, I think school should only run from Tuesday to Friday, and that someone should really, seriously consider a four day school week. Bye for now. I mean, ciao for now,

Kate

Poll Results

My first poll - 'Do you think you allowance is enough?' ended and I am happy to report (to my Mom especially) that 100% of poll responses voted that their allowance is not enough!

I will have to ask Mom reconsider my allowance!

Please click on my new poll question, "do you like summer or winter better or are you undecided?"

Movie Tickets

Hi everyone,

Today was my first radio appearance, my Mom and I were on 'Hot 103' because we won movie tickets to an advanced screening of the movie Hotel for Dogs. It's so cool because we get to see it before anyone else can.

Back to school tomorrow, my vacation is over!!!
